I thought I had concluded with the birds but there is one more that should go with this theme. This is a 12″ x 16″ oil on canvas called A Paddling of Ducks Distaff Side. It was started several years ago and was, more or less, completed 2017 (signed and dated). I saw a picture in black and white and the composition rather intrigued me. So I worked on it from there. The colour and shadows took time to figure out but I’m happy with it now. These duck sometimes over winter here. Let’s hope the winter isn’t too severe and they make it through.
This video is called Knossos by swo8 Blues Jazz from the album Efharisto in iTunes. Originally Knossos was the find of a Cretan merchant and antiquarian in 1878 by the name of Kalokairios. The British archaeologist, Sir Arthur Evans furthered the research of this remarkable find in 1900. This video is called Epidarus by swo8 Blues Jazz from the album Efharisto in iTunes. Apollo was worshiped at Epidarus in Mycenaean times (4th century B.C.). It was a sanctuary for the sick. Today it’s a 3rd century theatre, it’s not the sanctuary that brings the crowds. Epidarus is renowned for its acoustics. If you whisper from the centre of the dias you can be heard from the farthest reach of the stadium. It is still used today for theatre and concerts. 3:16 min.
This video is called Makria Lindos by swo8 Blues Jazz. When we first arrived in Athens we immediately bought tickets to fly on to Rhodos on the next available flight. We didn’t have long to wait, in about an hour we were on our way. Rhodos is the largest island in the Dodecanese, with a population of over 98,000 people. Like every where else in Greece, Rhodos is full of history. The Minoans and Mycenaeans had out posts here until the Dorians arrived in 1100 BC. On the beautiful Island of Rhodes is a small village called Lindos. It is 47 Km south west form the Town of Rhodos. We took a city bus from Rhodos one sunny afternoon to explore this gem, loaded with history. On our return to the city capital there was an elderly Greek gentleman complete with his Greek fisherman’s hat waiting at the bus stop…
